Counting Down the Words

"How much can you possibly have to say about the journey of three Magi?" Those were my exact thoughts when I started writing the first book, and at that point there was only going to be one book.

And then there wasn't just one book. There were two for sure, and I was almost to the end of the second book and had to admit there are three. I wanted to think I had done something wrong. Maybe I could do like I did in college, and cut out the wordy stuff? There wasn't any wordy stuff, and three of the most amazing men came to life on the page. They were taking the same walk I take every day and asking, "Am I going to do what God asks me to do today?"

Then I ran into the next problem. The first book was sitting at 48,000 words and anyone who has done any writing knows that for a young adult to adult fiction book you need at least 60,000 words. I know what you are thinking, the same thing I was, "Please God, don't let her add filler!" And I haven't. Instead it is becoming a beautiful written work, that will bring joy, sadness, forgiveness, treachery, cunning and danger. It will bring to life a group of men and women determined to follow God's call no matter where it leads. So here is my count down on the first book. My goal is to hit 65,000 words by December 30, 2021.
